CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK FOR TEACHING IN KOREA

As of December 15th, 2007 the requirement for an E-2 work visa for ESL teachers in Korea is a criminal background check, provided from your home country’s police.

The criminal background check is valid for 6 months after the issued date. This time frame may change without notice, depending on immigration policy in Korea.

For Canada: Your criminal records check must be stamped by a Korean consulate within your jurisdiction. For example NS would send documents to the Korean consulate in Montreal and include the following:

Fee 4.40 CND$ (Money Order or Cash Only)
A photocopy of passport and a return envelope (Xpresspost) if sent by mail.

According to the Korean consulate in Montreal your return envelope may also be addressed to Korea to help speed up the visa process.
