TEACH ENGLISH IN TAIWAN

Qualifications

Qualifications for teaching in Taiwan are determined by the Ministry of Education.

The Council of Labor Affairs issues work permits to foreign English teachers. Teaching Qualifications fro Taiwan include (please check with your school or recruiter, and or Taiwan Embassy as well):

1. You must have a university diploma.

2. Often schools in Taiwan ask that you have teaching qualifications, such as a university degree or college diploma in the field of education (such as bachelor of education) but will depend on the school and recruiter. All official transcripts should be provided as well.

3. Teachers are usually required to be at least 20 years of age or older.

4. Teachers must be a native speaker of the language you will teach. (Some exceptions may possibly be teachers educated in English speaking schools for a certain length of time, though this is uncertain and checking with schools and recruiters you apply for employment with is best).

5. Teachers must receive a health check. Please check with the school or recruiter for details.

6. A criminal background check is needed (home country).

7. University diploma and criminal background check to be verified byTaipei Economical and Cultural Office (Taiwan Embassy).

Visas

Documents you will need:

1. Degree or (2 year college diploma maybe possible)
2. TESOL/TEFL certificates if applicable, (recommended0
3. Resume and cover letters
4. Completed Visa application form
5. Passport with 6 months validity
6. Proof of flight in and out of Taiwan
7. Four passport size photos
8. May need a bank statement with certain amount of money in your account)
9. Processing fee (cash only, possibly a money order)
